Well, that didn’t take too long. Hot off the American release of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, Square Enix and Disney have confirmed that a second high-definition remastered PlayStation 3 compilation is also in the works. Appropriately titled Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, this new collection will again be comprised of two playable titles and a compilation of cutscenes from a third.

2.5 ReMIX will include both the PS2 title Kingdom Hearts II and the PSP prequel Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep in their entirety, while the DS spinoff, Kingdom Hearts: Re:coded will make an appearance via cutscenes only. Much like the previous collection, the versions of Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep that are included will be the special Final Mix versions that were previously exclusive to Japan, featuring new items, cutscenes, difficulties, and numerous other enhancements.

Speaking as a fan of the series, I personally consider both the second game and Birth by Sleep to be high points, and the idea of playing them in high-def with new features and PS3 trophies to collect has me excited. While there’s no specific release date yet, the PlayStation Blog confirmed via its announcement post that the compilation will launch globally in 2014.

A Japanese teaser trailer can be viewed below.
