Based around the popular manga and anime series, Berserk centers around the mercenary group known as the Band of the Hawk. The game will cover the story of Kentarou Miura’s series from the ‘Golden Age’ arc through the ‘Falcon of the Millennium Empire’ arc. Players will become familiar with the legendary Black Swordsman, Guts, and the leader of the Band of the Hawk, Griffith, as they do battle against humans and demons alike.

While the name Omega Force may not instantly ring a bell, you’re probably pretty familiar with their work. A division of Koei Tecmo, the studio has worked on titles such as Hyrule Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below and Toukiden, among many others. As such, Berserk follows the divisive Warriors/Musou-type gameplay of one versus thousands.

As someone who fell out of love with the Dynasty Warriors franchise by the time the last console generation began, I’m not sure Berserk has enough to change my mind. The anime itself is pretty solid, and the brutal world of the series certainly lends itself well to the genre. It’s just that I need something else to drive me forward in a game other than knowing I have tons of soldiers left to kill. With the title scheduled to launch in Japan next month, I suppose early impressions could potentially sway my opinion.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk is currently scheduled to hit North America on February 21, 2017.
