Although first-person shooters such as Call of Duty and Battlefield still dominate the sales charts, the no-frills shooters of years past appear to be making a comeback. 2013 and 2014 gave us Shadow Warrior and Wolfenstein: The New Order, respectively, while this year has already seen the release of the acclaimed DOOM. iD Software’s reboot is not the only traditional FPS we’ll get this year, though, as Flying Wild Hog and Gambitious Digital Entertainment are set to bring Hard Reset Redux to current-gen consoles and Windows PC next month.
A remake of Flying Wild Hog’s original 2011 Hard Reset, Redux is a combination of old-school gameplay and modern visuals. To celebrate the news that the shooter will launch on June 3rd, a new 10 minute clip has been released that showcases the type of action you can expect from the title. The fast and furious footage features both firearm and sword-based combat, and all of the violence happens at a silky smooth 60fps.
Even the plot of Hard Reset Redux is a throwback to the days of old. Set in the post-apocalyptic remains of Earth, players step into the shoes of a single CLN soldier. The last remnants of humanity now live in the closed city of Bezoar. However, after a breach in the wall surrounding the city, you’re the last thing standing between the menacing forces of The Sanctuary and the total extinction of the human race.
It’s weird, because for the longest time, I only really played first-person shooters that promised innovation in some way. However, in recent years, I’ve found myself gravitating to more straight-forward examples of the genre. I really enjoyed Shadow Warrior, which also came from Flying Wild Hog, so I’m certainly interested in this one as well.
Hard Reset Redux is scheduled to launch on June 3 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. Will you be picking it up? Sound off below and let us know!
