While the trailer still doesn’t reveal much from a storyline perspective, it does appear that the Cages will play a big role. Johnny, Sonya, and Cassie are all seen interacting with fellow characters, including the likes of Kenshi and Shinnok. Of course, throughout all of these interactions, Johnny and Sonya are bickering with each other, as divorced couples are likely to do.

From a gameplay perspective, neither Johnny or Sonya seem too much different from previous incarnations. Mr. Cage still throws green fireballs and spinning kicks, while Ms. Blade is adept at close-quarters grappling and brawling. Of course, with each character in Mortal Kombat X having three distinct fighting styles, this clip offers only a glimpse of what’s in store.

I’m not sure it would be a true Mortal Kombat game without either Johnny or Sonya making an appearance, so I’m glad to see that the two are returning. I’m interested to see how the two play into the storyline, as well. NetherRealm appears to be trying to bridge the gap between the old-school characters and the new ones being introduced here. What this means for the fate of these two, though, I’m not sure.

Mortal Kombat X is slated to launch on April 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.
