A new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has been released this week, showcasing both the game’s story and its new setting. In the trailer, we are introduced to a mysterious sorceress who turns the beloved Princess Zelda into a piece of art. In order to stop this new evil and save the princess, Link must master the ability to turn himself into a two-dimensional painting so that he can access new areas and solve tricky puzzles.

Another advantage this power gives Link is the ability to travel between worlds. By slipping through distinct locations, our hero will be able to travel into Lorule, which appears to be the more sinister version of Hyrule. If you have played the SNES title The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, this should remind you of the Light World to Dark World traveling feature.

While The Legend of Zelda franchise has never really been known for its storytelling, it’s good that we are at least getting some details on what will happen here. It’s also nice to get proper clarification on what the subtitle of A Link Between Worlds fully entails. We now know that Link will spend his time in this different world and, as the end of the video implies, will also meet a new princess.

Besides the horrifically uncreative name, I’m interested in seeing what other ways Nintendo can make Lorule feel dramatically different from Hyrule. Hopefully they have some clever ideas in store because if they choose just to make everything slightly darker in the world, I don’t think fans would be too happy.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is currently set for release on November 22nd for the Nintendo 3DS. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
