We already knew the first DLC for Marvel vs Capcom 3 is going to come as characters Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath, which are also included in the Special Edition. However, Gamespot revealed some information about the second DLC, which will be what Capcom is calling Shadow Mode.

Today, we’re revealing Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s Shadow Mode, which you can see in the screenshots above. Shadow Mode is downloadable content that will let you face off against a team of AI opponents modeled after the habits and tendencies of Capcom’s development staff and, according to Capcom, famous players from the fighting game scene. The first Shadow Mode pack will include teams and AI from three Capcom staff members, including producer Ryota Niitsuma, associate producer Akihito Kadowaki, and a QA tester. Additionally, the first pack is scheduled for release in March with more packs becoming available for download at a later date. If you ever wanted to say you beat the producer of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at his own game, this is your best shot.

Capcom also said to expect more packs to follow shortly, some of which will feature “personalities you already know.” It would be kind of cool to play against simulations of high level players such as Daigo and Justin Wong but what Capcom didn’t mention is the price (assuming it won’t be free that is). After all, even AI modeled after human players are still AI in the end, making the DLC an oxymoron. And of course AI can never truly play as unpredictably as a human player, which will by far be the main draw for Marvel vs Capcom 3 so with this in mind, are we actually willing to pay more than a few dollars (or anything at all) for these AI routines?

Personally, I think it’s a cool idea but I’ll probably be waiting for a tournament player AI or a Seth Killian AI unless this DLC is super cheap since the majority of my time in this game is going to be online. What do you guys think about this? Are you willing to pay for AI personalities? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check for our review when the game releases next week.
