Marvel’s Avengers was both one of the highlights and biggest disappointments of this year’s E3. One one hand, fans finally got their first glimpse of the superpowered action-adventure but on the other, developer Crystal Dynamics declined to reveal any gameplay. In fact, beyond showing off the game’s starting cast and setting, little else could be gleaned from the cinematic on display at Square Enix’s presser.

Only now, days after the fact, has the studio begun clarifying certain gameplay details for its ambitious project, the most recent of which sheds more light on how multiplayer will work in-game. As for when official gameplay is expected to debut, neither developer or publisher is willing to divulge that information just yet. Days, weeks, months? Who knows, but some fans aren’t willing to wait, it seems.

Footage that appears to have been captured at a closed demo event has appeared on YouTube today. Given that the individual filming was undoubtedly not supposed to be, the video quality is extremely rough, but you can check it out for yourself above if you’re eager for a glimpse of what to expect.

Obscure it may be, but there’s certainly no mistaking it – this is Marvel’s Avengers gameplay alright. As for what’s on show, one particular segment depicts Bruce Banner tearing across the Golden Gate Bridge as his angrier, greener self, upheaving cars and debris in an effort to clear a path. Likewise, combat for Cap and Black Widow are visible, the former of which is shown smacking an unidentified foe around the screen with his iconic shield.

The action ultimately concludes by transitioning to a segment where the player is in control of Widow fighting none other than Taskmaster. Official details have already confirmed the villain’s inclusion, of course, but this is the first time we’ve seen him in action in what appears to be an end-of-level boss fight. Various cutscenes are also interspersed throughout, though sadly, the audio is unintelligible.

So, there you have it, folks, the first gameplay for Marvel’s Avengers has arrived. What do you think of it though? Sound off in the comments section below!
