After being buried in the vault for years, Capcom has announced that both Mega Man X4 and Mega Man X5 will be coming to the PlayStation Network in September. The titles will launch as PSone Classics and will be available on either the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita.

Kicking things off on September 2nd, will be Mega Man X4, which was the first entry in the series to exclusively launch on the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Originally released in 1997, X4 allows players to step into the robotic shoes of either Mega Man X or Zero, as they once again do battle against the sinister Mavericks.

Following on September 9th, is Mega Man X5, which was originally released in 2001 for the PlayStation. Picking up following the events of its predecessor, X5 features Mega Man X and Zero facing off against series villain Sigma once again. The big difference between this entry and previous ones, however, is the addition of a time limit of 16 hours. Failure to finish the title in the set amount of time will result in the destruction of Earth, so you may want make sure you handle that.

With these two titles being re-released for the first time since the release of Mega Man X Collection back in 2006, I’m a little surprised Capcom also didn’t drag out Mega Man X6 for release. I understand it didn’t receive the warmest reception, but it’s the last entry in the series to release on the PlayStation, so it kind of makes sense to release it alongside these two.

Will you be purchasing either Mega Man X4 or Mega Man X5 when they launch in September? Let us know what you think about these re-releases in the comments section below.
