Ahead of GDC 2016 (Game Developers Conference) taking place in March, the nominations spotlighting the very best releases of last year have emerged online and, as anticipated, it’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher III: Wild Hunt leading the pack with four nominations apiece.

They share a space in the coveted Game of the Year category along with Rocket League, Fallout 4 and From Software’s Victorian RPG Bloodborne, while there’s a slew of low-key gems that get their due – Undertale included.

As an event, GDC is traditionally known for producing much in terms of news – for comparison, Steam Link and Unreal Engine 4 were the scene-stealers last year – though GDC 2016 could act as the perfect platform for Sony and possibly Valve to finally unveil the asking price of their respective VR headsets. Blazing a path of its own, Oculus has already laid down the gauntlet with an asking price of $599 for the Rift, but will PSVR and/or Vive be priced higher or lower? Time will tell.

Set to take place on Wednesday, March 16, you can feast your eyes on the cream of the crop ahead of GDC 2016.
