Microsoft Is Making Xbox Live Multiplayer Completely Free This Weekend

Microsoft is opening the gates for everyone to play online over Xbox Live this weekend, regardless of if you're a Gold member or not. From June 9 to 12, all games with multiplayer components that usually require Xbox 360 or Xbox One owners to be subscribed to the service's premium model will be given free reign to play what they please without spending a dime.

Obviously, you’ll still need to own the game you wish to play online, but if you don’t have any online titles, don’t fret – Psyonix’s super fun Rocket League will be free-to-play for the duration of free weekend too, so you’ll at least have one game to play with a few friends. The announcement on Microsoft’s Xbox Wire blog reads as follows:

For the first time ever, Xbox is inviting all Xbox Live members without an Xbox Live Gold membership to play online with friends for free during our Free Multiplayer Weekend running from June 9 through June 12, whether you’re on Xbox One or Xbox 360. This is a unique opportunity for users on both consoles to experience one of the most popular benefits of Xbox Live Gold membership.

Need a new Xbox One game to play with your friends for the weekend? Not a problem. Xbox is also giving all Xbox Live members free access to try Rocket League all weekend long. Choose a variety of high-flying vehicles equipped with huge rocket boosters to score amazing aerial goals and pull off incredible, game-changing saves alongside your friends!

A video has been released alongside the announcement to help give you an idea of what to play if you’re spoilt for choice. The Division, FIFA 16 and Call of Duty: Black Ops III are just a few of the excellent multiplayer experiences you can try for free online starting from today.

So, what are you waiting for? Get playing!
