Owners of the PlayStation 3 version of the sandbox Goliath that is Minecraft will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 port as of today, priced at $4.99 for the US and £3.99 for the UK. An Xbox One version will also be available to purchase tomorrow for the same price. Sadly, there is still no word on a release date for the PlayStation Vita.
The upgrade will mean that players won’t have to pay full price for brand new copies of the game on either platform. For those who don’t already have a copy of Minecraft on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, you can purchase the title at the full price of $19.99/£15.99
Currently, you will only be able to purchase the game/upgrade digitally, with retailers expecting to stock digital codes in-store later this month before a physical copy becomes available in time for Christmas.
It’s also been confirmed that saved maps and DLC from previous consoles can be transferred over to the upgraded versions of the game, meaning you won’t have to start from scratch. Minecraft on current-gen consoles will still have the same features, but with the added bonus of having the capacity to render larger worlds. 36 times larger, in fact!
