In celebration of Let’s Play day, YouTube have released a list of their top ten most watched video games, which takes into account the titles that have had the most watch time since the platform’s creation, with Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto claiming the two top spots.

It’s no big surprise that Minecraft has dug itself in at number one, particularly when you take into account the fact it earned more YouTube searches than Beyonce and Taylor Swift during 2014. The game is also leaps and bounds ahead of its closest rivals: Grand Theft AutoLeague of Legends and Call of Duty.

Mojang’s crafting favourite managed a solid 3.9 billion views across YouTube in March alone. With Grand Theft Auto managing a fair 1.9 billion and Call of Duty a paltry 851 million in the same month, it seems fair to say that the rest of the top ten has their work cut out for them.

The full top ten is as follows:

  1. Minecraft
  2. Grand Theft Auto (series)
  3. League of Legends
  4. Call of Duty (series)
  5. FIFA (series)
  6. Garry’s Mod
  7. The Sims (series)
  8. Five Nights at Freddy’s (series)
  9. Puzzles & Dragon
  10. Dota 2

Fans of YouTube style gaming can also rejoice at the global platform’s preparation for its own eSports and game streaming service. After a failed attempt to purchase streaming giant, Twitch, in 2014, YouTube have decided to take matters into their own hands. The service will offer a number of opportunities to already established streamers and provide a reboot for the site’s YouTube Live venture. Expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks as we get closer to E3.
