A news item over on Xbox Achievements has revealed plot and gameplay details about the up-and-coming Resident Evil: Revelations 2 game set for release in early 2015.
Taking place between Resident Evil 5 and 6, Revelations 2 will star the familiar heroine Claire Redfield as the game’s protagonist. There will also be a new character: Moira Burton, daughter of Resident Evil 1‘s Barry. The plot involves both Claire and Moira waking up in an abandoned detention facility after being abducted.
Revelations 2 will also feature a new main enemy, the Afflicted. According to the game’s producer, Michiteru Okabe, this particular antagonist may look similar to regular zombies, but will promise to be “something quite different.” When encountered, players will be given the option of either fighting them head-on, approaching them stealthily or avoiding them all together.
Similar to recent Resident Evil titles, Revelations 2‘s campaign mode will support both single-player and co-op, with Claire focusing on combat while Moira will be there for support (healing etc). However, unlike Resident Evil 5 and 6, this game will have a more traditional survival horror aspect to it, rather than just action.
Okabe had this to say:
“I want this to be both a game that doesn’t lose what made its predecessor great, while also bringing something new and exciting to the Resident Evil series. Achieving that lofty goal by bringing together past and future will make this an itchy-tasty prospect indeed.”
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will be coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. Keep an eye out for more details or follow us on Twitter for updates.
