The Big N was kind enough to show off another Mario Kart 8 trailer during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, giving us over 2 minutes of brand new footage for the upcoming Wii U game.

Besides being the first entry in the series to sport HD graphics, Mario Kart 8 is bringing some additional new features to the party. We previously saw motorcycle and hang gliders in Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7, respectively, but this entry adds even more options in the form of UFOs and four-wheel ATVs. Looking more and more like Diddy Kong Racing, it appears that there will be several ways for players to tackle each course.

In addition to the new vehicles, Nintendo also revealed that Rosalina and baby versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Daisy will be among the racers you can choose from in Mario Kart 8.

While I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to my Mario Kart, I have to say that I’m very impressed by the footage shown off here. The title looks absolutely gorgeous in HD and some of these new levels look completely absurd. Nintendo appears to be going all out with these course layouts and I’m very much for that.

We will continue to bring you news of Mario Kart 8 in the lead-up to its spring 2014 release. For now though, why not take a look at the trailer embedded below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
