For all those looking to take their ninja skills to the streets and play against other like-minded silent assassins, you now can with Ninja Gaiden 3′s expanded multiplayer component. Team Ninja has just released some screenshots showing off some of the action and features of their upcoming hack-and-slash adventure starring the baddest ninja of them all, Ryu Hayabusa.

Although we don’t get an in-depth understanding of the multiiplayer from these pics, at least we know that we will soon be able to disembowel that annoying twelve-year old with one smooth swipe of the sword.

From these pictures, you can rest assured that there will be no lack of frenzied action and a healthy dose of what looks to be a large emphasis on stealth, which should surely add complexity to the experience.  Also, the customization of your ninja is a cool feature that I hope adds some depth to the multiplayer component.

I always looked at the Ninja Gaiden series as a lonely experience of a solitary ninja battling the world, but a social aspect to the game should bring layers of depth to the somewhat (arguably) shallow gameplay.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Ninja Gaiden, but I am needing something special and different to get me really excited about this entry.

Especially considering Team Ninja inexplicably decided to remove the over-the-top violence (decapitations and what not) that the series is known for, which I am still upset about (c’mon, you know you are too), they will need to step up their game in the multiplayer component to keep my interest. These pics have definitely sparked that interest a bit, but we will see how it all ends up when Ninja Gaiden 3 is released sometime in the first quarter of 2012.
