As for the DLC packs themselves, the first is scheduled for release at some point during the summer, and will introduce the Cave of Trials challenge, as well as a new difficulty mode and feature for the in-game map. While we’re without solid details for the time being, it’s possible that Cave of Trials is some form of endurance mode, similar to one of Wind Waker‘s secret dungeons, that pits Link against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. The new map feature, however, has us puzzled, but we’re sure it will turn out to be far more exciting than it sounds.

The second content drop, which Nintendo is aiming to deliver around the tail end of 2017, adds “new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story.” That one sounds much more akin to traditional DLC, and given that this is the first time Nintendo is supporting a mainline Zelda title with additional content, I’m interested to see how it advances on a game that’s already looking to be packed with stuff to do.

For more details on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s Expansion Pass straight from the horse’s mouth, see above for the video featuring none other than Eiji Aonuma himself.
