Though the company is yet to officially peg a release date to their NFC toys, the first wave of Nintendo’s Amiibo figures are now available to pre-order for those in the UK.

Priced at £10.99 each, the line-up includes a dozen of The Big N’s most notable mascots, including Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Pikachu, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Villager, Marth, Fox, Kirby and, to commemorate her rather surprising addition to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. 4, the Wii Fit Trainer.

Initially revealed during Nintendo’s conference at E3, the NFC figurines are essentially the company’s answer to Disney Infinity and Activision’s lucrative Skylanders series. Although, given the venerable popularity of the aforementioned roster, Nintendo are certainly bringing the big guns to this rather novel market.

Essentially, the Amiibo figures are compatible with the Wii U’s gamepad controller and the recently-announced line-up of 3DS’ — which will be Amiibo ready from the get-go thanks to a hardware upgrade. If you already have one of the existing handhelds, fear not: Nintendo is planning to release a dedicated NFC add-on to incorporate the new figures.

In terms of software, Super Smash Bros. 4 will be the first actual game to support the peripherals, with Nintendo promising compatibility with Mario Kart 8 as well as future releases such as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World.

It’s expected that the publisher will provide more details pertaining to a specific release date for these Amiibo figurines closer to launch. As for now, it’s understood that ardent Nintendo fans can look forward to the first wave of collectible toys come the holiday season.
