Since its reveal back in August of 2014, there’s been an eerie radio silence surrounding Overkill Software’s The Walking Dead – quite befitting for a game about the zombie apocalypse, really– but today an update has arrived from publisher Starbreeze to announce that the co-op, first-person title will debut for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Partnering with 505 Games, Overkill Software are best known for its lucrative PayDay franchise, and the studio certainly has the creative chops to deliver a unique spin on Robert Kirkman’s lucrative IP. As a matter of fact, it’s understood the prestigious writer is on board as a producer on the title, though this particular iteration of The Walking Dead will spin its own story independent of the source material replete with novel characters.
In tandem with today’s news, Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson touched upon the potential of such a partnership, and how Overkill is the perfect candidate to bring something new to TWD property, with Telltale Games doubling down on narrative-driven experiences.
Partnering with 505 Games partner with us on the console publishing for Overkill’s The Walking Dead will streamline the distribution and marketing of the title in the traditional space and on the digital console marketplace. Having worked together before on the successful PayDay franchise, we are certain this will be a fruitful collaboration.
Overkill Software will bring its own unique take to The Walking Dead formula in 2016, when the studio’s licensed property will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. In the meantime, tell us, are you anticipating what the PayDay alum can cook up? Let us know below.
