Nintendo has released a brand new trailer for Pikmin 3, fully detailing the unique special abilities that each of the different Pikmin types have in the upcoming game.

In total there are five Pikmin types (three have appeared in past games and two are new to the series) that players can utilize in Pikmin 3. The Blue Pikmin can survive both on land and in the water — making them the only choice for retrieving submerged treasures. The Red ones are resistant to fire and have the strongest attacks in battle. Yellows are immune to electricity and can be tossed much higher than any of the other types. The new Rock Pikmin are heavier than their cousins, which gives them the ability to be thrown through Crystal Walls. Finally, the cute little pink Winged Pikmin can fly, which allows them to carry objects over water or lift some obstacles.

Pikmin 3 launches both in stores and on the Nintendo eShop on August 4, 2013 in North America (July 26th across Europe). Check out the new “Meet the Pikmin” trailer below, and look for our official review of the game in the coming weeks.
