Ubisoft released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag today, giving fans an official introduction to the game’s cast of pirates, privateers, and seekers of booty.

The trailer is narrated by Matt Ryan (the voice actor who portrays the game’s protagonist Captain Edward Kenway), who provides a bit of backstory for Kenway, his Quartermaster Adewale, mentor Edward “Blackbeard” Thatch, the “gentlemanly” Benjamin Hornigold, the ever “jolly” (and annoying) Stede Bonnet, and Charles Vane. Additionally, we get a look at one of Black Flag‘s villains, Woodes Rogers.

Aside from the colorful cast of characters, this latest trailer also shows some of what players can expect to find in Edward Kenway’s home island, the “rowdy pirate republic” of Nassau.

On the surface it all looks pretty good, but I’m somewhat skeptical of whether or not Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will ultimately live up to the pre-launch hype. In my opinion, Ubisoft has a history of under-delivering on their Assassin’s Creed promises, so I’m going to take a wait and see approach with this one.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launches on October 29th in North America, October 31st across Europe, and November 1st in the UK for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. The next generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are due out closer to their respective platforms’ November launch dates.
