Well this is weird. We knew there would be a major Pokemon-related announcement over the weekend, but I don’t think anyone expected this. For the first time in series history, the Pokemon games will carry a number in the title as Pokemon Black and White 2.

Made after a Pokemon television show in Japan yesterday, director for Pokemon Black and White, Junichi Masuda, announced the games will be hitting Japan in June.

Confirmation for the games in NTSC-land were made via the North American Pokemon website, however no release details were given.

What you see above are new versions of the legendary Pokemon from the previous games, Zekrom and Reshiram, wearing some kind of armor. These designs weren’t explained either, but I suspect we’ll learn more in the coming months.

What say you, gamers? Do you think there might be a reason for a lazy looking title change?
