Perhaps to offset today’s distressing news regarding their recent financial loss, Nintendo dropped a nostalgic bombshell for Pokemon fans, with the announcement of a pair of 3DS remakes of the now decade-old Game Boy Advance entries in the series, Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire.

Sporting the spiffy new monikers of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, no additional media or details on the remakes have been provided at this time, other than a teaser trailer revealing the box art and current release window, which is at some point in November.

The 2003 originals introduced several new features to the series, such as the ability to fight with teams of two Pokemon instead of the standard single battles of old. At the moment, it’s hard to tell what improvements or additions will be incorporated into Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, but given that they’re 3DS titles following in the footsteps of Pokemon X & Y, it’s likely that a fully polygonal 3D world will again be provided instead of the 2D sprite-based approach of the original, along with online functionality for battling and trading, which has been a series standard for some time now.

It’s likely that we’ll get more details on Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire by the time E3 rolls around. For now though, you can watch the debut teaser trailer below, and let us know your thoughts on the remake in the comments section.
