During today’s Nintendo Direct video broadcast, Level 5’s CEO Akihiro Hino announced the sixth, and final, Professor Layton game. The 3DS game, called Professor Layton Chobunmei to A no Isan by Joystiq, is set for a 2013 release in Japan.
The broadcast also revealed a short gameplay trailer, which showed all of the traditional Layton traits, including the usual mix of puzzles and cutscenes. Plus, as expected, the titular character was shown chatting to locals who refused to assist in his investigation, unless either he or one of his assistants (currently confirmed are returning protagonists Luke Triton and Emmy Altava) could solve one of their fiendish puzzles.
Although there is no official word on a western localisation, you can be fairly confident it will see a release over here in late 2014 or early 2015. After all, the series’ previous entries were released over here around 18 months after their inaugural Japanese releases occurred, so I expect this game to be no different.
Heck, we still have to wait until October before we can get our grubby hands on Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.
