Once the dust settled in the aftermath of E3 2016, one rumor to get a lot of traction online claimed that Sony had initially planned to close out the show by unveiling Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 4, but chose to pull the announcement in light of the heinous shooting that rocked the city of Orlando three months ago.

The jury’s still out on whether Sony and Rockstar did scupper plans at the eleventh hour, but those Red Dead fans pining for another foray into the latter’s acclaimed Western world may be in for a remastered treat much sooner than expect. According to report presented by Korean games site Gamefocus – as relayed by NeoGAF – an HD overhaul of the beloved original is set to be announced for PS4, Xbox One and PC this week.

The outlet goes on to claim that Red Dead Redemption HD will launch in the early stages of 2017, possibly after being showcased at the imminent PlayStation meeting on Wednesday, September 7. Bringing an end to months of rampant speculation, new hardware will surely be the main focus of Sony’s upcoming showcase, with all signs pointing to the Japanese giant finally – finally! – confirming the PS4 Slim to be real, before potentially teasing the release of the PS4 Neo, a mid-generational console upgrade set to go toe-to-toe with Microsoft’s beefy Project Scorpio in 2017.

We’ll be bringing you all the news as it happens on Wednesday, September 7, so stay tuned. While we wait, tell us, what are your initial impressions of Red Dead Redemption HD possibly coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC next year?
