Resident Evil 7 Takes Place After Resident Evil 6; Pre-Order Bonuses Announced

Despite looking like a game from a completely different franchise than the one that it belongs to, Resident Evil 7 will in fact follow on from the events of Resident Evil 6 rather than be a total reboot, Capcom has confirmed in a post on Sony's PlayStation blog.

After the horror sequel was officially unveiled last night at Sony’s E3 presentation, many had expected a story completely removed from what came before to go along with the new first-person perspective for the main entries in the series. However, despite a new setting and cast of characters, Capcom social media specialist Tim Turi said that fans should expect to see numerous tributes to the “franchise’s origins.”

Of course, a horror story is only as frightening as its setting, and Resident Evil 7 pays tribute to the franchise’s origins on this front as well. Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, taking place in modern day and revolving around a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.

Turi also confirms that fans who pre-order the Standard or Digital Deluxe versions of Resident Evil 7 will “receive the Survival Pack, which includes an early unlock to the hardest difficulty mode as well as a special item set when the game releases. Pre-order via the PlayStation Store and you’ll also receive the exclusive Resident Evil 7 PS4 dynamic theme.”

Resident Evil 7 launches January 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A free demo for PlayStation Plus members is available to download now.
