Despite what many had understandably been led to believe earlier this week when Resident Evil 7‘s pre-order bonuses were leaked by Swedish retailer Disc Shop, the survival horror sequel won’t feature any kind of microtransactions, allaying fears that players could buy their way to survival rather than earning it the good old fashioned way.
The post on the official Resident Evil Twitter page cements the earlier leak, meaning that various different in-game items will be included with pre-orders, but the so-called Survival packs aren’t an indication of Capcom intending to sell the same consumables at a later date for real money.

It’s good news for sure, and a sign that the reputed Japanese publisher has learnt from past mistakes in regards to how it handles additional content. In the past, fans of their titles have discovered less than savory business practices when it came to such things, the most embarrassing being when PC players of Street Fighter X Tekken discovered that additional characters were present on-disc, but were locked from use.
With that said, we do so dearly hope that substantial content add-ons for next year’s nail-biting horror are considered. Past efforts for the likes of Resident Evil 5 have shown that Capcom knows how to do it right.
Resident Evil 7 launches January 24, 2017 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the latter of which will include PlayStation VR support.
