PS2 and Xbox classic The Warriors has marched onto PlayStation 4 replete with 1080p and trophy support, Rockstar Games has confirmed.

Loosely based on Walter Hill’s 1979 movie of the same name, The Warriors is a fairly major departure from Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series – a staple of the studio ever since ’97 – placing a heavy emphasis on melee combat and brawling in a style not dissimilar to Streets of Rage.

Available on PlayStation Store from today, July 5, Rockstar’s cult classic can be picked up for £11.99. Currently, Sony hasn’t listed the title on the US PlayStation Store, but we’ll keep you updated as this story develops. For now, here’s an overview of the action that awaits.

“New York, 1979. A battle on the streets. The armies of the night number 60,000 strong, and tonight they’re all after The Warriors–a street gang wrongly accused of killing a rival gang leader. They must make their way from one end of New York to their turf on the other side of the city. All that stands between The Warriors and their survival are 20 miles and thousands of street gang members.”

The Warriors is the latest title to undergo the PS2 to PS4 transformation. The only question now is, will you be picking up Rockstar’s cult classic?
