Activision has just released a new promotional video for the upcoming Skylanders Swap Force that offers numerous intriguing details regarding additions and enhancements players can expect from the upcoming third entry in the hit toy-based game series. Regarding the game’s story, Swap Force will take place in a new region of Skylands called the Cloudbreak Islands, and involves returning villain Kaos teaming up with his similarly evil and overbearing mother in another attempt to conquer the world.

The titular Swap Force characters, which are comprised of 16 unique characters, have detachable top and bottom halves on their corresponding toy, which can be swapped to share halves from other Swap Force figures, with the appropriate result appearing in the game. The top half of a figure will determine how they attack, while the bottom half determines how they move about the environment. Altogether, the Swap Force figures will be capable of 256 different combinations.

In addition, 16 traditional “Core” Skylanders will make their debut in Swap Force, and the game will offer full support for every toy from both Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants. Every returning character has been given a graphical overhaul to better suit the game’s enhanced visual engine, as well.

The new feature allowing characters to jump will allow for many new gameplay approaches, including 2D sidescrolling platformer segments. The entire game will also support co-op play for two players, along with a plethora of returning and new multiplayer modes.

Skylanders Swap Force is currently scheduled for an October 13 release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Wii U, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions also scheduled for each new console’s launch. We will keep you updated as more media regarding the game becomes available.
