The first trailer for the latest entry in the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic: Lost World, has officially been released by Sega. Originally given a brief announcement and single picture during the last Nintendo Direct stream, the game, which has been confirmed as a Wii U and 3DS exclusive, now has numerous new details revealed in this new trailer, including the new visual style and lineup of villains Sonic will fight.

The game looks to take heavy inspiration from the original trilogy of 2D platformers that Sonic started on back in the days of the Sega Genesis, with the titular character once again protecting smaller animals in need. The environments shown in the trailer harken back to the grassy and checkerboarded look of the iconic Green Hill Zone, and gameplay footage shown gives off a definite Super Mario Galaxy vibe, with Sonic navigating between various floating structures and even changing his plane of gravity. New abilities, such as Sonic being able to continually run on or up walls, will also be part of the game.

It also looks like, in a change of pace, Sonic won’t be facing off against longtime nemesis Dr. Eggman, but a completely new group of antagonistic monsters known as The Deadly Six. But seeing how there’s no real dialog or story explanation in this trailer, the details on who these mysterious new villains are will have to wait.

The trailer can be viewed below. We will post new details and media regarding Sonic: Lost World as they becomes available. Until then, feel free to post your thoughts on the trailer in the comments section below.
