Next month’s GDC 2016 will play host to a PlayStation VR event, with all signs pointing to Sony finally nailing down a concrete release date and asking price for its head-mounted device.
According to Engadget, the press event is invitation-only, and will feature scores of hands-on booths for the PS VR and its software. Beyond that, not much was shared outside of the invite embedded below, though we imagine that Sony is keeping firm details behind closed doors until GDC kicks off.
As for price, what we do know is that its chief competitors, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, will be priced at $599 and $799, respectively, leading to rampant online speculation that PlayStation VR will wind up around the $500 ballpark. Of course, that’s merely conjecture at this stage. It is, however, worth keeping in mind that Sony’s new platform boasts an innate advantage in that it utilizes the PlayStation 4 for processing power and the like, whereas the Rift and Vive require beefy PC gaming rigs.
GDC 2016 takes place over the week of March 14-18. But do you think it’s time for Sony to officially reveal a date and asking price for PlayStation VR?
