As 2018 continues to get underway, one of the most hotly anticipated releases of the year has been somewhat surprisingly quiet. Until now, that is.
Courtesy of this May’s Game Informer, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man PS4 exclusive has just dropped a whole payload of new details, artwork, and even some brand new gameplay footage to whet the appetites of all you webheads out there. Up first though is some eye-catching art, which features Spider-Man sporting an intriguing new “White Spider” costume – check it out below:
In the cover reveal article over on the American publication’s website, there are also some further details provided. Executive Editor Andrew Reiner revealed that he’d personally had some hands-on time with the game — which is rumoured to be running at 30-frames-per-second, on a modified version of the Sunset Overdrive engine — and also teased that he knew when the hugely anticipated title would be launching, though those specific details aren’t currently in the article. That said, he did drop a few new tidbits.
What’s super interesting is that there will be multiple upgrade paths as players make progress through the game. Furthermore, a new suit crafting mechanic has also been revealed and it sounds tantalizing. I’m guessing this system will work a little like the suit upgrading abilities in, say, the Dead Space series, which isn’t purely an aesthetic preference, but also gives players a larger pool of health and gifts them with new buffs for their abilities, while requiring specific schematics and gear to build.
These new additions genuinely sound awesome and will surely help give the web-slinging experience a lot more welcome depth and personalization — it’s always nice when players are provided with some wiggle room to tailor the experience to their own play-style. Further still, there’s even some new gameplay footage (below) to feast on that’ll undoubtedly excite fans.

In regards to narrative details, they’re still somewhat scarce. However, Reiner did touch on them, stating that according to Insomniac Games, the best stories unfold when the worlds of Spider-Man and Peter Parker collide, which is exactly the kind of experience they’re trying to provide here. Sounds super promising to us!
How about you guys, though? Have these new pieces of intel got your Spidey senses tingling, too? As always, be sure to let us know by dropping a comment.
