Electronic Arts is just getting started with its Star Wars Battlefront franchise, and we now have confirmation that the next chapter in DICE’s licensed series is on course to release in fall 2017.
Word comes by way of a recent investor call – as relayed by Polygon – where EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen told one enquiring analyst that the shooter sequel is expected to launch “a year from now.” No further details were disclosed, only that the studio is “working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering.” Speculation is rife that Battlefront 2 will come packing a fully-fledged story campaign, something that was sorely missed from the 2015 original. Stay tuned for more on that one.
After landing exclusive rights to the Star Wars IP, Electronic Arts has mapped out a jam-packed slate of licensed titles for the years to come. Not only is DICE actively working on Battlefront 2, but there’s also the third-person Star Wars game in development at Visceral Games – one headed up by former Naughty Dog alum Amy Hennig – not to mention the embryonic title simmering at Titanfall 2 dev Respawn.
Closer to home, we have the upcoming launch of the X-wing VR Mission for Star Wars Battlefront. It’s without an official due date at the moment, but EA will likely align the add-on with Rogue One‘s release on December 16. If you’re hoping to jump back into the galactic action in time for the movie tie-in, you’re in luck; a comprehensive Ultimate Edition is looming on the horizon, one which bundles Outer Rim, Bespin, the Death Star DLC and the forthcoming Rogue One: Scarif mission.
Circling back to Star Wars Battlefront 2, expect the sequel to touch down late next year.
