BioWare’s Greg Zeschuk announced in a post on the Star Wars: The Old Republic website that the SWTOR develop team has undergone some “restructuring” and have let go of an unannounced number of staff.

The reason for the layoffs was not explained, however, Zeschuk reassured subscribers that the studio “remains vibrant and passionate” and that there is still a “very substantial development team working on supporting and growing the game”.

While it’s possible that the restructuring of the SWTOR development team is part of the normal MMO cycle, it’s also impossible to rule out the recent drop in active subscribers from 1.7 million in February to 1.3 million when EA reported their latest earnings results earlier this month. That, of course, is just speculation but with BioWare not providing any details, it’s speculation that also makes a lot of sense.
