The open-world zombie apocalypse simulator, State of Decay, has managed to pull in over 250,000 survivors in its first 48 hours.

In case you’re looking for some perspective on Undead Labs’ huge accomplishment, then you should know that Minecraft is the only other XBLA title to sell the same volume in an equal amount of time. State of Decay managed to pull this off without an ad budget, physical copy or multimedia push. The success of Undead Labs’ first title evolved from the simple idea to bring zombie lovers the survival experience they’ve dreamed of and it appears it has finally come true.

Here’s what the community manager for Undead Labs, Sanya, had to say about the team’s success.

“This was you. We did not have an ad budget. We didn’t have a physical copy to load onto shelves, no worldwide multimedia push, no studio reputation with millions of followers. All we had was what we believed was a great game and a great community. And make no mistake, a solid game is not enough, not in 2013. Plenty of great games wither away in obscurity. This train got rolling because you got out and pushed.”

The success of State of Decay does not mean that the team will be riding the train all the way out of quarantine quite yet. They are still hard at work, ensuring that Germany, Australia and New Zealand get their chance at surviving the zombie apocalypse too. In addition, the first title update has already been submitted for certification and aims to fix a host of launch bugs.

Our congratulations go out to the team at Undead Labs for their much deserved success.
