After the last entry introduced gamers to the titular goblin thief, Shards of Darkness has Styx once again getting caught in the middle of a conflict. While out on “business” in Thoben, the City of Thieves, Styx has a chance meeting with Helledryn, a mysterious officer. Helledryn asks Styx to steal the ambassador’s scepter, a powerful artifact that several parties are after. It won’t be easy, but in exchange for his work, the officer is willing to deliver a sizeable amount of magical amber to the thief.

From the trailer, we can gleam that the operation does not go according to plan. Several different faces are seen searching for the scepter, including a sorceress of some sort. We also hear of news that a figure of power has been murdered, and at the very end of the trailer, witness a massive creature confront Styx. Suffice to say, you’ll have your work cut out for you if you choose to accept this mission.

I was a pretty big fan of Master of Shadows back when it launched in 2014, and I’m excited to get my hands on Styx: Shards of Darkness later this year. The first one was a throwback to days of stealth games that actually required players to be sneaky. I hope in this new entry that Cyanide Studios continues to hold true to their approach, and doesn’t try to change things in order to appeal to a more general audience.

We’ll continue to have coverage of Styx: Shards of Darkness over the coming months, so be sure to stay tuned for more.
