Nintendo announced this morning during their latest Nintendo Direct presentation that Rosalina & Luma from the Super Mario Galaxy series will join the roster of playable characters in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS.

Judging from the trailer show during today’s presentation, it appears that players will directly control Rosalina in Super Smash Bros., while Luma acts as a partner that can fight alongside her, be controlled from a distance, or used as a shield to protect the Mario Galaxy princess from projectile attacks.

I was happily surprised to see Rosalina confirmed for Super Smash Bros., although in hindsight I really should have seen it coming. After all, it was just last month that Nintendo revealed that the game would include a Super Mario Galaxy stage.

At any rate, you can check out Rosalina & Luma in action in the new Super Smash Bros. trailer below and hit up the gallery to see the first screenshots of the pair on the Wii U and 3DS.
