Some enticing news today for those eagerly awaiting the upcoming Wii U and 3DS Super Smash Bros. games, as head developer Masahiro Sakurai made the following announcement this morning via Miiverse:

On 4/8, at 3 PM PST (8/4 11 PM UK time), we’ll be airing a Super Smash Bros. Direct!! There will be all kinds of info about the new Smash Bros. games on this simultaneous global stream that will be delivered “directly” to you, so don’t miss it!

The stream will be available to view on the official site at smashbros.com, and will presumably be archived on YouTube afterwards for anyone who misses it. Exactly what kind of information will be announced is currently unknown, as the above quote is all we have to go on, and given how massive Smash Bros. games tend to be in terms of content, there are a lot of possibilities. We could see new and returning character announcements, new mode, stage, or item reveals, or maybe even a more specific release date, instead of the vague “2014” promise that we’ve had for a while.

We will continue to keep you updated on Super Smash Bros. as more news drops.
