As promise, Team Ninja revealed a new Ninja Gaiden spin-off game at Tokyo Game Show 2012 titled, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.

The title is being developed by Spark Unlimited (the same Western studio that is currently developing Lost Planet 3) in conjunction with Capcom’s former head of Research & Development, and Mega Man co-creator, Keiji Inafune. Tecmo-Koei did not announce a release date for Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, or say what platforms it is being developed for. However, they did show off a debut trailer for the game that reveals a little about the game’s plot.

Yaiba has players take on the role of a new protagonist who is slain at the start of the game, and comes back from the dead as a cyborg-Ninja. Once he is back on his feet, the new character will have to battle through hordes of zombies on his journey to “kill his killer”, who turns out to be an instantly recognizable character from the main series.

There are a few bits of what appears to be gameplay footage tossed in with Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z‘s debut trailer, showing a really nice cel-shaded look to the art style.

Check out the trailer below, and we will let you know as soon as more details are announced.
