While the anticipated third season incubates in development, Telltale Games has today confirmed that a three-episode The Walking Dead mini-series will be released later this year, orbiting around cult favorite badass, Michonne.

Launching across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android, it’s understood that players will need to own the first episode of The Walking Dead Season 2, and Telltale plans to reveal much more about the spinoff closer to the premiere. In tandem with the announcement, TWD grandfather Robert Kirkman spoke with adulation about the new-fangled lead character.

In many ways, Michonne herself is a reflection of the world of The Walking Dead. She is brutal and cold on the outside, but deep beneath what is broken, she remains hopeful, trying to claw her way out of the darkness that surrounds her. In our effort to bring the world of the comic and the world of the Telltale series closer together, there is no greater character than Michonne to help bridge that gap.

This mini-series in particular will take place between issues #126 and #139 of Kirkman’s beloved property, and Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner added his own two cents about the project.

Michonne’s complexity and range make her an ideal lead for the compelling interactive drama fans have come to expect from Telltale. With this mini-series, players will experience Michonne’s challenges first-hand, and the choices they make will shape her journey. We’re incredibly honored by Robert for the opportunity to share this untold story in The Walking Dead universe.

Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead is undoubtedly the studio’s flagship series, and one that has cemented the dev’s status as one of the industry’s leading storytellers. Fans will certainly be excited to see the character be explored further Michonne in this three-part series, and we’ll have much more about the spinoff for you to enjoy in the coming months.
