Despite a launch marred by technical problems and performance issues, the success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is giving Respawn Entertainment the opportunity to develop a threequel. Or so this new job posting would have you believe.

The first game, which came out in 2019, rose to acclaim for combining the popular galaxy far, far away aesthetic with Soulslike combat to deliver a unique Star Wars experience to people who’ve always wanted to be a Jedi. The second game has only been out for a month, but it seems that the hype surrounding it is giving Respawn the green light to continue with a sequel.

Indeed, based on a new job posting (per PCGamer), the studio is looking for a VFX editor, a game writer, and an audio engineer to create “an incredible Star Wars experience for our players in a fun, third-person action-adventure setting.”

Perhaps the most exciting revelation here is the engine. Respawn is finally ditching the problematic Unreal Engine 4 in favor of the newer next-gen optimized Unreal Engine 5. That means, despite Jedi: Survivor only releasing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the untitled threequel is going to be the first real next-gen title in the series, with a visual fidelity range that we can only dream about at this point.

Interestingly enough, and much akin to Ubisoft’s Massive studio, Respawn is working on a first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe. But that game must be well into the late stages of development if the dev is only looking to hire new talent for the Jedi sequel.
