Building on the foundations laid by the original Shattered Alliances promo, the video above continues to spotlight the Man of Steel and his tyrannical regime. Presiding over a contingent of baddies headed up by Grodd, Superman is seen here confronting a stoic Batman, yelling, “how many more innocent people die before you accept that some lives need to be taken?!” Yes, Clark’s dramatic fall from grace continues with Injustice 2, and we’re intrigued to see how Superman and Batman’s clash pans out throughout the course of NetherRealm’s brawler sequel.

Slowly but surely, the studio has been fleshing out the game’s character roster in anticipation of launch day (spoilers: it’s May 16th), adding the likes of Swamp Thing and Black Canary to the ranks. That brings the total number of fighters to 23, including Doctor Fate, Cyborg, Batman, Blue Beetle, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Deadshot, Gorilla Grodd, Aquaman, Robin, Cheetah, Brainiac, Bane, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Atrocitus. For DC fans, and indeed comic book fans in general, it’s an embarrassment of riches, and we fully expect NetherRealm to add another one or two fighters to the collection in the build-up to release. Stay tuned for more.

Injustice 2 pummels its way onto PS4 and Xbox One on May 16th. It’ll feature not one, but two Special Editions crammed full of in-game extras, while there’s also mention of a digital tie-in comic penned by Tom Taylor. Expect more news to emerge on that one as we inch closer to release.
