Here’s something you don’t hear every day: a development team hyping that their latest creation can only be achieved on the latest groundbreaking technology. Whether it’s true or just a way to shill more consoles is something I’ll leave up to you after reading this latest information on The Order: 1886.

Apparently, developers Ready At Dawn conceptualized the idea for the game during their tenure making PSP God Of War titles, but held off on making it due to technical limitations. That actually makes sense though; it’s obviously going to be easier to create a highly cinematic experience – the ultimate goal behind The Order: 1886 – using hardware like the PlayStation 4.

Going into detail, Ready At Dawn explained that the character models used during both gameplay and cinematics are one and the same, allowing for a seamless transition between the two. They also went on to state that they simply couldn’t achieve the level of graphical fidelity on display here using other consoles. The game certainly looks gorgeous so far, so I’ll take their word for it.

The developers then went on to discuss the various aspects that make the game unique in comparison to everything else on the market.

“There hasn’t really been a game set in this period. There were a lot of incredibly cool things that happened, with the government, with inventions, and so on–folks love that stuff. We knew we could have a lot of fun with it if we took that rich history and put our own spin on it.”

The Order: 1886 will launch on February 20th, 2015, exclusively for the PlayStation 4
