Developer Farsight Studios is currently celebrating The Pinball Arcade 12 Days of Christmas on its Facebook page, and the first day’s announcement gives PlayStation 4 owners a good reason to cheer. That’s because it confirms that The Pinball Arcade will be available as a digital download starting this week, Dec. 17 in North America, and Dec. 18th in SCEE regions.

In a surprise announcement, a retail version will be available as well, and it will also be arriving in stores this week. The retail release will include tables from the first season of The Pinball Arcade, digitally replicating an assortment of real life tables, including the difficult to license Star Trek: The Next Generation and Twilight Zone tables. The digital release will also allow players to download the first season, and will provide the option to purchase individual table packs for those who feel like being a bit more selective.

Either way, you’ll have a nice assortment of tables to choose from. When combined with the base game, the first season of The Pinball Arcade consisted of over 20 tables, including classics such as Medieval Madness, Funhouse, Monster Bash and Taxi.

In addition to marking its acclaimed series’ first next-gen release, the PlayStation 4 version of the game will also feature a number of improvements over previous releases, including an impressive new ability to dim the lighting of the virtual room and play using just the light from the table itself.

For owners of the current PS3 and Vita versions, Sony has announced a cross-discount for The Pinball Arcade. The full details have not been disclosed just yet, but they should be announced soon.

With this being only the first day of Farsight’s The Pinball Arcade 12 Days of Christmas promotion, you can expect many more announcements to come. Be sure to keep an eye on the official Pinball Arcade Facebook page for more details.
