If you’re anything like us, you’re probably chomping at the bit to play those three recently announced classic Resident Evil games on your Switch which are arriving this May. Sadly, though, we have some bad news for you: They’re going to cost you an arm and a leg when compared to the prices of the same games on other platforms.
Specifically, the Resident Evil HD Remaster, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4 will all cost $29.99 each in North America and £29.99 each for folks in the UK on Nintendo’s console. For comparison sake, the prices of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the same games are around £16 each here in the UK.
Ouch! That’s a pretty significant price hike, right?
There’s no denying that many cross-platform titles on Nintendo’s latest handheld hybrid receive – what many gamers have affectionately dubbed – the “Switch Tax.” For some unexplained reason, ports to the Big N’s plucky console often cost around 10% more than their PC, PS4 and Xbox One counterparts.
From Payday 2 to 2016’s DOOM, consumers have gotten used to paying more to play games on the Switch than other platforms. Whether Nintendo or Capcom will step in and try to placate Resident Evil Switch owners by lowering the price, well, only time will tell.
For now, the eShop pre-order prices for the three – admittedly incredible games – is nothing short of a swindle for Ninty fans. Sure, it’s undoubtedly going to be awesome having the chance to play these three excellent Resident Evil titles on a handheld, but the price of entry does seem a little unfair when compared to other consoles.
While we wait patiently and keep our fingers crossed that there’s some sort of price drop on those three games to bring them more in-line with their other console brethren, there’s been some pretty cool Resident Evil sales news that’s dropped recently. Not only has the acclaimed zombie series sold over 90 million units worldwide, but the recently released Resident Evil 2 has shipped over 4 million units. Not too shabby for a horror game, eh?
