After suffering a litany of delays, WaterMelon Games has finally announced that Pier Solar HD will hit a handful of platforms next week. The throwback RPG will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC and Ouya starting September 30th. The title is also scheduled to launch for the Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U, Xbox 360, Sega Dreamcast and Android platforms later this year.

Set in the world of Reja, Pier Solar HD focuses on the quest of three best friends in search of a rare herb. While the tale begins as a simple fetch quest, Hoston, Alina and Edessot soon find themselves in the midst of something much bigger. A true throwback RPG, the title was originally developed for the Sega Genesis, but is now getting the HD treatment thanks to a massively successful Kickstarter campaign.

As someone who grew up playing classic RPGs such as Phantasy Star and Shining Force, consider me interested in WaterMelon’s homebrewed RPG. It certainly looks the part of a classic RPG, and reviews for the original Pier Solar and the Great Architects were positive. I do have to say though, if I still owned a working Sega Dreamcast, I would totally buy this to play on it.

We will continue to have more news on Pier Solar HD as it becomes available. While we are waiting for that, however, why not take a look at the RPG’s trailer and let us know what you think.
