Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD Is Coming In Summer 2012

At last night's Spike Video Game Awards, pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, made good on his promise to reveal a new title. The game that he did reveal was a bit of a surprise, but I'm of the opinion that it's the best thing for the dwindling franchise. Instead of trying to go another route with new peripherals or anything of the sort, the team will be going back to the past, where the series flourished. That's right - we're going to be receiving Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD.

At last night’s Spike Video Game Awards, pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, made good on his promise to reveal a new title. The game that he did reveal was a bit of a surprise, but I’m of the opinion that it’s the best thing for the dwindling franchise.

Instead of trying to go another route with new peripherals or anything of the sort, the team will be going back to the past, where the series flourished. That’s right – we’re going to be receiving Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD.

For those wondering, the game will contain levels from the first and second series releases. In the grand scheme of things, those were easily two of the best, with the first and third being my personal favourites. As a result, this is good news for anyone who became addicted to these games a couple of generations ago. It’s more fan service than anything, which makes me happy.

According to Joystiq, Tony Hawk has personally confirmed a twenty dollar price point for the revamped release. He also made mention of a summer release window on “digital platforms.”

I’m really looking forward to what I assume will be a great downloadable title. Having played the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater for countless hours on N64, I look forward to revisiting some of those amazing levels. As of right now, only School and Downhill have been confirmed. However, the game’s reveal trailer focuses in on the inaugural warehouse level from the first game.

Now, let’s hope that they can get Goldfinger to license Superman for another ollie-filled adventure.
