Torchlight II may launch soon after Diablo III, according to a news story reported by Joystiq. Runic Games‘ CEO, Max Schaefer, spoke to the website at PAX East, where he mentioned that the sequel’s release will “ideally” fall shortly after Blizzard‘s juggernaut debuts on May 15.
Schaefer is keen for Torchlight II not to be seen as the poor man’s Diablo III, promoting that the former’s $20 price tag boasts an offline mode, modding and LAN support. He furthered this thought by stating that its gameplay pacing is different.
When asked what he’d like to say to fans awaiting this release, Schaefer said:
“Be patient. Our total development time on this game is going to be about two years, which is not unreasonably long for this type of game. We’re going as fast as we can. It’ll be worth the wait, it’ll totally be worth the wait. In the long run, people will be happy we took this extra time.”
Torchlight II will be out for PC (with Mac to follow) sometime this year.
