Developed in collaboration with Mojang, Minecraft: Story Mode brings a narrative-driven adventure to the world of Minecraft for the first time in franchise history. Inspired by the rabid fanbase of Mojang’s astoundingly popular title, Story Mode will feature the captivating characters and layered storylines that Telltale Games has come to be known for.
In this adventure, players will step into the blocky shoes of Jesse, an ordinary fellow voiced by Patton Oswalt. After unwittingly unleashing an ancient terror while at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends must seek out The Order of the Stone, four adventurers who vanquished an Elder Dragon years prior. The mythical Order, comprised of a Warrior, Redstone, Engineer, Griefer and Architect, represents the best hope for saving the day.
Similar to past efforts from Telltale Games, Minecraft: Story Mode will feature an all-star voice cast. Besides the aforementioned Oswalt, the game will also call upon Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Brian Posehn, Corey Feldman, Billy West, Dave Fennoy, Paul Reubens, and Martha Plimpton to lend their pipes to the title. Additional casting for the season will be announced when the time comes.
Kevin Bruner, CEO of Telltale Games, offered up his thoughts on the project in a brief statement, saying:
We’ve worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love. As Jesse, players will steer their own path through a tale of adventure and survival; all brought to life by an all-star cast. Through Telltale’s choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can’t wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft.
While no release date has been set, Minecraft: Story Mode will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows PC, MAC, iOS and Android devices later this year.
