PC gamers will get to spend some extra time with El Presidente, as Kalypso Media announced today that Tropico 5 will be available digitally on May 23. The island building simulator will also be available for at retail stores starting on May 27.

As the latest entry in a long running franchise, Tropico 5 features a bevy of new modes and upgrades. The title will be the first to feature both competitive and cooperative multiplayer, as well as improved trading mechanics, scientific research trees and island exploration. Also new to the series will be the “Dynasty” feature, which allows for El Presidente to promote his own family to roles of power in his office so that his legacy may live on forever.

While Tropico 5 will be coming to the PC in May, the title will also hit the Xbox 360 and Mac later in the Summer. Versions of the game are also scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4 and Linux at later points in 2014.

We will continue to have coverage of Tropico 5 in the lead-up to its release date on May 23, so be sure to stay tuned!
