Valve has released Source Filmmaker to the public via Steam. The movie-making tool is compatible with games running on Valve‘s Source Engine, most notably Team Fortress 2. It is comprised of the same tools Valve has used in making all of the promotional character videos for the game, meaning that plenty of high-quality character animation possibilities are now available for free to those willing to put forth the effort.

The software allows for AVI and TGA exports of the films made within it, as well as the ability to import to YouTube. It’s certainly nice of Valve to allow such powerful tools to the public for no cost, and it will be interesting to see what users can make with it.

We will keep you updated as more news regarding Valve, Team Fortress 2, and the Source Filmmaker develops.
